"I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you aren’t actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet..."

Only us SFY students and some cleaners and admin staff remain. Its really quiet, and kind of eerie.

I'm also the only person left in the flat, so nobody is stealing my milk.
Just watched Walking with Monsters again, still feel a bit let down by it. :( Style over substance.
There are 3 things wrong with it imho.
1.) Too short. Walking with Dinosaurs/Beasts both got 6 episodes, why not Monsters?
2.) Because of number 1 it seemed so rushed, which is a huge shame because there are a lot of really interesting creatures and habitats that were either not mentioned or just quickly brushed over. If the BBC really wanted an overview of evolution they should have devoted a programme or two to that rather than trying to force it into the Walking with...wildlife documentary format and doing both halfarsedly. There's barely any information provided on the creatures, the habitats, the ancient continents, the taxonomy, etc etc.these things could have added a bit more context. And it doesn't really go into why it is thought the evolution they bang on about happened the way it did. Its too simplistic. more therapsid action plz. I just don't see why it got this treatment other than saving money. I mean,...Beasts was full of creatures the general public might not have heard of before and were much less famous than dinsaurs, mammoths etc. This could have been so cool.
3.) Because of 1 and 2 it seemed actively dumbed down. Not just general entertainment level dumbed down which is fine, in fact usually good, for documentaries but more like,"well, you don't really care about the details you just want some pretty CGI lols"which is a shame cause the CGI is nice and it would have been totally awesome to have some kind of proper wildlife drama played out in the Burgess Shale animal community.

At least they managed to get in Anomalocaris, a cool gorgonopsid and many vicious Dimetredons.
Wow, what a geeky rant.

I'm writing an essay I don't really care about, it brings out the whiny geek in me.
Antioxidants in popular breakfast fruit juice in case anyone cares, and they don't, but if you are interested, cranberry and pomegranate have come out on top out of the ones I have looked at. Searching through papers on this is a nightmare, so many Gillian-McKeithy sounding ones, and even more ultra-specific ones on diseased populations and rodent models and a bunch more that aren't online. Yikes.

Later I have to write my human evolution essay and researching that is a nightmare thanks to all the creationist crap out there. I honestly don't see the problem with it, with regards to religion. To me, the theory of evolution is fascinating and kind of beautiful, and exactly the the kind of creative brilliance I imagine(-d, when I was very young and still sort of believed in that kind of thing*) a god would come up with. I had this kind of notion that watching life was the godly equivalent of immersing oneself an epic film or novel or something. And then, if you like to think humans are a pinnacle of evolution, developing out of single celled organisms and struggling for life in the face of danger and catastrophy and then eventually developing the potential to maybe even rise above the brutality of nature seems quite noble and romantic to me. I may be missing something. I was turned off the idea of god originally by the apparent lack of dinosaurs in heaven.*

Anyway, once you get through all that, you have these two schools of though. One that humans are still evolving rapidly, maybe more rapidly in the past, and the other that we are barely evolving at all, even to the point where human evolution is almost over. And as I have not studied this in great depth I don't really have much of an opinion or anything to really back it up. I've arbitrarily picked "humans are still evolving" cause I think we are but no clue how rapidly. Ugh. This is hard going. SO MUCH CRAP ON INTERNET.

Going to drink tea and sleep, I think I have a cold D: D: D: D:

* I asked a vicar visiting the school to do an assembly if someone was feeding my dead first goldfish in heaven. He said, no, animals don't go to heaven. So then I got worried and asked him if that meant there were no dinosaurs in heaven and he said there weren't. And so my whole worldview was totally shattered because I thought heaven was supposed to be this completely awesome place but really couldn't be if there were no animals, no dinosaurs, not even my pet goldfish, it suddenly sounded as unspeakably awful as hell and I didn't want to go there anymore. Lol.

Sight, for sure. Due to a sinus infection I lost my sense of smell almost completely for ages and it never came back properly, sucked but not really on the same level as going blind!
Sinus infection damaged my hearing as well so maybe one day I'll be deaf :-( would suck not to be able to listen to music or birds but I'd much rather be able see all the beautiful things in the world.
Taste would be a great loss and so would touch. But at least if I could see I could adjust to not being able to feel things. Deaf but no touch means you can't even feel your way at all or know your loved ones are hugging you etc. How crap.

But, I still didn't want to go in because I've got a sore thoat and a sinus headache, so I went to Windsor and bought shiny green tights and some rum & raisin fudge. Now I'm back and I have tea and cupcake, and slice of tasty fudge, and Britpop, and I'm going to paint my toenails and watch Spaced while I do my biology homework later.

I went home for most of the weekend, it was great. I went round my parent's and saw Oscar, picked up a few of my books, and had a bath. A BATH! With hot water. Amazing. My eye is almost better now too.
Then I went to town for a bit with Dane and did a bit of shopping. I bought an amazing hoody and an amazing scarf from Zara. I'm quite liking Zara atm. I don't usually...not really my style, don't like the cut, a lot of it feels cheap and overpriced. The back of the shop is a treasuretrove of interesting things however.
Went back to Dane's house, had some dinner and then watched the X Files movie, the new one. I think I might have liked it if it hadn't been an X Files film. Bu it was and I was disappointed. It wasn't very X-filey at all.
THEN we got up at 4am. Ouch. Then Games Day. It was a bit lame this year tbh. I liked it last year. This year there was hardl anything there. Almost no new stuff. Just one Skaven concept model, that everybody has already seen, and a couple of photos of other things. And things that were new last time. The gaming tables weren't as impressive this year either. And Golden Demon was lame (though that is just bad luck I think. This year all the entries were mediocre and uninspired unlike last year when some amazing things were entered.) It just seemed halfarsed this year. They also failed at organising so all the coaches left 45 minutes late and then we got caught in traffic and we got back 2 1/2 hours late. So I missed the train I wanted to get. I didn't want to get back at midnight. So I stayed at Danes and then got the 6.07am train back -_- Nobody checked my ticket so I an use it again next week. Hooray!

I think the food thief has moved out...all my milk is untouched. And so is the box of cakes I left in the fridge. I can guess who it was now.

My room still smells but I left bicarb of soda everywhere and it has helped. My mum gave me this carpet cleaning stuff too but I left it at home, d'oh.

I reeeeaaally want a Surf Club hoody. I hope they have one in my size! I'm a bit bummed that the first surf trip is Halloween weekend cause I'm already really busy, but hopefully I should be able to go to the next one.

Off to college now, then hopefully Ikea. MOOSE SHAPED THINGS AHOY!

need coffee now

I'm bored...I have a gross eye infection atm and I don't feel like going to the SU party anymore, its made my face swell up and look wonky...urgh. The medical centre is being useless. They won't help me until im registered and i can't register without the date for my BCG and tetanus jabs and my GP surgery doesn't have any record and blah blah I should have not bothered flling that bit in.
MY FACE IS BROKEN! HALP.

My loan came through. my lab coat has yet to appear and I need it for Tuesday :(

At least I got the internet sorted. MYSELF because IT support were not supporting me through my IT issues.

I've got lotus seed buns and hot chocolate. I'll be fiiine -_-

I met the rest of my flatmates. My right neighbour is a russian guy called Mike, he's OK, I went to Tesco with him after we enrolled at Strodes college. He's doing the foundation year too, but in computer science. My left neighbour is a Brazillian girl called Dimitra and she's also suffering from cupboard and fridge space issues. And it was her birthday yesterday :) Then there's a nice Chinese finance student called Isabella who keeps asking me for help with english questions. And gave me a peach. Lol. Yummy.
There are 3 more chinese finance students who are standoffish and stop talking and stare at me whenever I go in the kitchen and it's just them, and TAKE UP ALL THE FUCKING CUPBOARDS WITH GIANT BAGS OF RICE! and LEAVE LOADS OF RICE IN THE SINK!!!! And then there is a Portugese girl who I've seen once and I've forgotten her name. Oops.

there was a fire drill at 7.30 this morning. it was sunny at least.

PHOTOS!

Pigeon friends :)

A Tower raven :)

Me...being a prat

^ at london zoo
